Lifetime Term Limits for City Council Councilors

The Colorado Constitution sets an 8-year term limit for district seats and a 6-year term limit for the at-large seat. It allows the term-limit clock to reset after a 4-year hiatus. These term limit rules apply to Montrose. They work and have served the City of Montrose well. They support voter choice while also encouraging new candidates to seek public office.

This has happened only 4 times in the last 144 years. That’s less than 3% of the time.

Is that really a reason to change our Charter?
