Police Chief

Council Approval

Public safety is essential to the quality of life and well-being of all Montrose residents. The current Manager-Councilor structure ensures the city council does not overreach and that a qualified, experienced city manager oversees the appointment, discharge, and day-to-day management of the chief of police. Changing the charter so the city council ultimately approves the appointment/discharge of the chief of police risks special interests from council members who are not trained professionals in local government management or public safety.
